Macular degeneration is the deterioration of the central area of the retina called the macula. The macula is very small, accounting for only 5% of the surface area of the retina. Due to the macula’s special construction it makes fine, detailed vision possible, such as seeing features on faces, reading fine print, or seeing street signs while driving. The remainder of the retina provides us with our less detailed peripheral vision.
Stargardt’s disease, also known as fundus flavimaculatis, is the most common form of inherited juvenile macular degeneration. Most people suffering from Stargardt’s disease are diagnosed before the age of twenty. By the age of fifty, most patients will be legally blind, having a visual acuity of 20/200 or worse. Individuals with Stargardt’s receiving MicroAcupuncture treatments experience the same positive results as the macular degeneration patients.
Retinitis pigmentosa is a group of eye diseases where about half the cases can be the inherited and the other half does not show any family history of retinitis pigmentosa. The latest studies suggest that retinitis pigmentosa is connected with gene defects, some of these defects cause insufficient amount of a number of proteins and amino acids to be created, which cause incomplete photoreceptors with very short lifespan and weak light sensitivity, predominantly rod photoreceptors. This causes the light sensitive rods to weaken and night blindness to occur, this is the first symptom in retinitis pigmentosa, after that, loss of peripheral vision, leading to tunnel vision, then loss of the central vision, and finally total loss of vision.
In diabetic patients, the body does not use and store sugar properly. High blood sugar levels cause damage to blood vessels and nerves. Damage to blood vessels in the retina is called diabetic retinopathy. In cases of diabetic retinopathy, the capillaries in the eyes contract, restricting the blood flow to the eyes, decreasing nutrients and oxygen. This causes a degeneration of the cells in the retina, thereby decreasing vision.
Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness in the United States. It causes damage to the optic nerve due to high pressure in the eye. MicroAcupuncture can help patients by repairing the damage to the retina caused by the increase in intraocular pressure. This increase in pressure causes the small capillaries in the eye to collapse, resulting in damage to areas of the retina. In rare cases it can help to keep the pressure down.
MicroAcupuncture Pain Treatments/Traditional Acupuncture is very effective in treating pain whether it is acute or chronic, and if used in connection with homeopathic supplements (i.e. tablets, ointments, or injection), or other natural supplements, the result can be superior to traditional treatments.
